The Business + Higher Education Roundtable (BHER) is thrilled to announce the launch of our new Student Advisory Board (SAB). With today’s launch, BHER is now accepting applications for its first SAB cohort.
“We have always been motivated by a desire to co-create new opportunities for young Canadians by listening and responding to the challenges they are facing. For these reasons, the experiences and perspectives of Canada’s post-secondary students are fundamentally at the core of our work,” said Dr. Valerie Walker, Chief Executive Officer of BHER.
“We are incredibly excited to open the applications for our first SAB cohort today because we know these student voices will be instrumental in informing BHER’s work in the future.”
The students selected for the SAB will begin their one-year term on May 1, 2020. BHER hopes to include 7-10 representative post-secondary students from across Canada who have a passion for preparing students and the Canadian economy for the future of work in this first cohort. To apply, students must be in their first degree, diploma or program.
The formation and creation of BHER’s SAB would not have been possible without an incredible team of students. BHER extends its sincerest thanks to Julia Gollner (Queen’s University), Fillette Umulisa (Camosun College), Garrett Koehler (SAIT) and Danny Chang (Western University). These students provided BHER with critical advice and guidance in the building of components and structure of the SAB.
“The need for students, business, and higher education to collaborate effectively in order to navigate the complexities of a rapidly changing workforce is vital,” said Danny Chang, Western University student and founding member of the SAB. “I am proud to have been a part of the team that helped create a mechanism for students to be a constant voice throughout these fundamental conversations about their experience and future.”
The deadline to apply for the Student Advisory Board is February 23, 2020 at 8 p.m. EST.
