McMaster is a research-intensive, student-centred university dedicated to advancing human and societal health and well-being. The Faculty of Science works to create global impact by advancing scientific discovery and knowledge, and promoting greater understanding. Its innovative interdisciplinary approach generates new methods and insights, groundbreaking results, and lasting change.
McMaster is partnering with the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) - Ontario Branch to strengthen McMAster’s partnership with Canada’s insurance sector through the Actuarial Career Test Drive program. Building on the previous success of their pilot project, this program will integrate CAS within McMaster’s Math Department through the creation of a case competition, curricular industry projects, and internships.
This WIL experience will provide students with an opportunity to solve real-world problems with real data submitted by insurance companies. Students will work with industry mentors to build connections in their target industry and produce relevant research that improves the effectiveness of the property and casualty sector. Students will also learn how to effectively seek employment opportunities and market themselves appropriately.
The Actuarial Career Test Drive Program is a unique initiative offered through the McMaster Faculty of Science’s Mathematics Department that aims to build the career-readiness of students in the Actuarial and Financial sectors, and create a talent pipeline for CAS employers in Ontario. This innovative approach will lead to further opportunities between CAS and McMaster as the needs of industry and the benefits of students are better understood.
