Wavemakers is dedicated to creating a more authentically diverse and inclusive work-integrated learning experience: one where students in Canada experience a sense of belonging and learn from the world’s leading experts, no matter who or where they are. Created in collaboration with post-secondary institutions and industry partners, and designed with belonging at the core, the Wavemakers program removes traditional barriers to ensure all students have access to high-quality, meaningful WIL opportunities.
Wavemakers is partnering with the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), Wilfred Laurier University, and other post-secondary institutions across Canada to deliver 1,200 unique WIL opportunities. The WIL programming uses Wavemaker’s virtual reality platform to provide students with pre-WIL wrap-around supports, as well as simulated and virtual WIL opportunities.
Through cutting-edge virtual reality technology, students access skills, training, and a network of world-class experts and employers, while mentors learn with and from students in the workplace of the future. Students participate in synchronous learning sessions, complete an applied learning project, and have access to a series of pre- and post-WIL participation support networks and activities, including career fairs and showcasing events, mentorship and networking opportunities, and group convening sessions.
This innovative WIL programming will ensure valuable outcomes for all stakeholders: students gain access to new opportunities that were once out of reach; employers gain access to a diverse pool of talented candidates; and post-secondary partners have an off-the-shelf, high-quality, flexible, fun, and fast co-curricular program that they can incorporate into any area of study.
