The Business + Higher Education Roundtable (BHER) is pleased to welcome Emily Carr University of Art + Design as a new work-integrated learning (WIL) partner, with generous support from the Government of Canada.

Through “Pathways for Creative Futures,” Emily Carr University is collaborating with 10 employers to launch a curricular program that will introduce 140 unique WIL experiences for Studio Arts and Animation students, including equity-deserving students in the new media sector.

The Studio Arts stream will focus on equipping students with the practical skills, entrepreneurial mindset, and work experience necessary to succeed as creative practitioners. The Animation stream will put students to work on applied projects that solve real-world problems for businesses while building their professional networks.

This program is a novel approach to re-imagining WIL for creative industries, and is one of many ways that BHER supports the employment success of Arts students in Canada. BHER is producing new research and resources on strategies to increase opportunities for students in the Arts, who are a valuable talent pool currently underrepresented in WIL. 

To date, BHER has delivered over 58,000 WIL opportunities in partnership with over 200 industry organizations and post-secondary institutions across the country, strengthening talent pipelines for Canadian employers.
