The Business + Higher Education Roundtable (BHER) is convening a free, virtual, lunchtime event about hiring students through work-integrated learning (WIL) in British Columbia. At BHER, we know that WIL improves productivity for organizations and social and employment outcomes for students. That’s why we’re bringing together leaders from across British Columbia to talk about how investing in young people and in WIL can help employers find the skilled talent they need while also strengthening communities.
We’ll hear about BHER member TELUS’ Friendly Future Foundation & Social Purpose Programs, and also take a deep dive into BHER-funded partner Wayble’s Career Pathway Program, which connects international students with leading employers to gain the mentorship and project experience required to kick-start a career in Canada. Learn what makes these programs successful and get inspiration for your own WIL next steps.

This event about work-integrated learning (WIL) in Atlantic Canada includes a conversation with regional post-secondary and industry leaders, including BHER members, about successful collaborations with local employers, best practices for connecting with diverse students, and trends, changes, and challenges they’re seeing in the region. At BHER, we know that WIL is a crucial part of solving two big interrelated challenges: the productivity crisis and the transition to clean energy. That’s why we brought together leaders from Alberta to talk about how they’re equipping students with the skills Albertan employers need to grow and green the economy.
We’ll take a deep dive into BHER funded partner Calgary Economic Development’s innovative and successful WIL programs that get students into green careers with local SMEs, and explore how these programs can be replicated in other cities in the Prairies and beyond.
