The University of Ottawa is the largest English-French bilingual university in the world. Located in the heart of Canada’s capital, it is one of Canada’s premier research-intensive universities and offers a full range of academic programs at all levels of study. It is consistently ranked among the world’s top universities.

This project is targeted towards francophone and anglophone international students at the undergraduate level, and includes a set of novel work-integrated learning (WIL) streams combined with career development support activities with an overarching objective of equipping international students to engage with the labour market in the Ottawa-Gatineau region. The project will integrate a new Horizons program that equips international students with tailored WIL supports, including a course on the Canadian labour market, student self-assessments and reflection exercises on their skills, job searching strategies and tools, interview techniques, language training, and more.

The University of Ottawa will create 540 new WIL opportunities for students from two of the major direct-entry faculties: the Telfer School of Management and the Faculty of Social Sciences. While all participating international students will pursue the learning objectives of their respective academic programs, the WIL programming will provide students with meaningful opportunities to further develop, complement, and reflect on the skills required for successful transition into the Canadian labour market.
