Trent University will develop, expand, and formalize community-service learning and community-based research opportunities, aiming to engage 1000 students in work-integrated learning experiences across green industries. The Trent Community Research Centre will partner with municipalities, conservation authorities, manufacturers and NGOs to deliver innovative approaches to experiential learning and research across Peterborough City and County, Haliburton County, City of Kawartha Lakes, Durham Region, and Northumberland County.

Trent University will host Community Bootcamps that will provide students with research skills tailored for community-service learning and community-based research and will form a community of practice for participating students and community partners. As part of their experience, students will be supervised for academic credit by a faculty member at Trent University, while contributing to the research needs of their community and gaining valuable transferable skills.   Trent University will also host a large community gathering to celebrate the contributions of students across the region, and recognize the outstanding research that has an immediate, positive impact for the community.
